Position Summary
The Executive Director works under the general guidance of the Board of Director and is responsible for carrying out the Chambers administrative affairs, finance management, supervision of staff and coordination of Chamber committee activities to accomplish goals established in the Chambers Strategic plan. Emphasis shall be on maintaining a strong member base through innovative programs and services to meet the needs of the business community. Acts as a catalyst for change and provides strategic leadership through numerous partnerships with other leaders in the community. Represents and promotes Manitowoc County on city, county, state, and national levels.
Roles and Responsibilities
Board governance: Works closely with the Board to fulfill the organization mission. The Director leads the Chamber in a manner that supports and guides the organizations’ mission as defined by the Board of Directors and the legal charters of the organization. The Director is responsible for accurate and timely communications with members of the Board of Directors allowing for informed decisions. The director guides the allocation of resources to accomplish the strategic goals. The Director assists board with recruiting and onboarding new Board members.
Financial Performance- Develops and maintains events, programs and services that ensures fiscal health of the organization. The Director will work with the Treasurer in preparing an annual budget and providing monthly financial reporting to the Board of Directors. The Director is responsible for fiscal management that operates within an approved budget.
Membership: Develop and manage systematic methods for increasing the Chamber’s membership through a focused member recruitment sales program. Ensure member retention through a coordinated process and program that offers value in Chamber membership. The Director is responsible for the Annual Report and execution of the annual member meeting.
Personnel Management: The director recruits, employes, trains and supervises the work activities of the compensated Chamber Staff. The director under the guidance of the Human Resources Committee, conducts personnel reviews, establishes salary and benefits for all staff members.
Communications: The Executive Director represents the chamber as a spokesperson for the community, business, civic and government organizations fostering positive and effective relationships (i.e., Progress Lakeshore, Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce). The Director will collaborate with various entities on all levels and is an active member of the community.
Preferred Professional Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or marketing
- Five years of senior administrative experience in a leadership position
- Fundraising ad event management
- Experience with volunteer management
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Budgeting ($400,000+ annual budget)
- Ability to negotiate with several entities to accomplish the end goal.
- Skills in collaboration and motivation applied with Board, staff, and chamber members.
- Manitowoc County Residency is critical to the success of this position.
