Mission Applications Scientist (Hybrid possible)Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR!
KBR is seeking a mid-level Mission Applications Scientist to support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, NOAA, and the Ground System and Mission Operations (GSMO-3) contract on the GOES TOWR-S (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites Total Operations Weather Readiness with Satellites) team. This position will support effective exploitation of satellite observations by National Weather Service forecast offices and centers.
This position requires on-site work at the National Weather Service in Silver Spring, MD; with occasional travel to the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction (NCWCP) in College Park, MD and Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. Infrequent travel to conferences, trainings, and similar activities may also be necessary.
Hybrid possible.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and document AWS cloud-based mission applications
- Lead and mentor small project teams
- Prepare articles and documents regarding use of satellite remote sensing data in the meteorological forecast process
- Participate in technical outreach activities in the NOAA community
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field
- 10 + years of related experience
- Experience with the following:
- Python programming language for development of data processing and visualization applications
- Working in Linux OS environments
- Application development using Amazon Web Services Cloud resources
- Satellite Remote Sensing and Atmospheric Systems including an academic background
- Ability to communicate effectively with project leads and customers and present work to NOAA/NASA customers
- Effective technical writing skills for documentation, training materials and outreach communications
