The Opportunity: FSQA Culture Lab Technician
Are you looking for an opportunity to make an impact on a fast-growing company? In this position you will:
- Be responsible in the preparation and quality assurance of cultures to be used in the manufacturing process.
- Support the laboratory programs through good laboratory practices
- Adhere to food safety and quality practice, procedures and guidelines
- Prepare culture for use in manufacturing
- Perform testing on samples received into the lab as directed by the FSQA Supervisor or delegate and accurately report results into appropriate test forms or databases. Participation in proficiency testing and internal or external audits is required.
- Develop/modify procedures and test methods and perform verification/validation of methods as needed.
- Perform startup/ shut down procedures for the Laboratory. This may include equipment start-up/shut down, laboratory disinfection / cleaning, incubator/ refrigerator / freezer checks, balance checks, autoclave operation, biosafety cabinet usage, pH etc.
- Calibrate and maintain testing equipment and record calibration / maintenance activities and results as per laboratory technical procedures and/or work instructions.
- Enter test results/ data into the laboratory database. Enter data onto laboratory forms.
- Verify the accuracy of data entered.
- Swabbing for total plate count, yeast and mold and plating according to procedures.
- Sample log in: Enter samples into LIMS and any associated paperwork. Verify the accuracy of data entered. Label and prepare samples for analysis with LIMS numbers assigned. Ensure all samples are redirected to the appropriate area.
- SAP receiver: Receive items into SAP, acquire COAs for inventory. Receive and store inventory as per lab protocols.
- Media/Solution preparation: Prepare solutions, reagents and /or growth mediums as outlined per Laboratory Technical Procedure and /or work instructions.
- Housekeeping: Maintain an organized lab while maintaining good housekeeping practices. Handle waste disposal and glassware cleaning.
- Report Generation: Perform a review, approval, and issue/distribute laboratory reports, including email notifications to the appropriate distribution lists and/or customers.
- Perform FSQA duties such as (but not limited to) temperature checks, paperwork verification, verify the monitoring procedures, receiving checks, finished product checks, product inspection, monitoring GMP’s, pre-op inspection, label verification, hold/release, review and on-site of pSOPs and SOPs, PPC Monitoring, collect product retention samples, water sample collecting, audits (glass, light, internal etc.), data entry and filing.
- Aid in non-conformance investigations and re-work process.
- Accurate record keeping ensuring consistency of product safety and quality and compliance to requirements of regulatory agencies (state, FDA, etc.) military, BRC, or customer audits.

What you will bring:
- Associates Degree from in Food Science, Life Science, Biology, or related field or two years related experience.
- Functional knowledge of windows; specifically, Word and Excel applications.
- Ability to communicate clearly and follow directions
- Basic mathematical, statistical skills, and basic problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow written policies, programs and SOP’s and communicate the content to other employees.
- Food industry experience preferred.
