Ascent is looking to fill a full-time position for a GIS Specialist to join our practice based in Sacramento.

You are the type of person who enjoys using your GIS training and analytical skills to solve challenging environmental and planning questions. You are highly motivated to work as part of a project team to assist a project through the planning process, by performing detailed analysis and developing maps or documents pertaining to project deliverables. You believe strongly in the value of implementing well-thought-out and concise spatial analysis so that land use planners, environmental regulators, and other decision-makers have technically accurate, objective, and reliable information to support their analyses, policy-development, and decisions.
IN A TYPICAL WEEK AS AN ASCENT GIS SPECIALIST, YOU MIGHT:
- PROCESS spatial and tabular data collected by project team members or provided by clients.
- PREPARE figures and maps to visually support analysis and documentation.
- CREATE and modify GIS datasets and implement GIS-based analyses supporting environmental, natural resources, and planning projects.
- PREPARE and process field data collected in ArcGIS Field Maps.
- PROVIDE independent data interpretation while effectively maintain data documentation.
- PRODUCE detailed and often highly technical solutions to provide clear, complete, and accurate representations of spatial data.
- WORK within an agreed timeframe and budget to complete assignments.
- CONTRIBUTE to project success by providing excellent service and high-quality technical information to the project team.
Requirements
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in GIS, geography, environmental studies, or related field with demonstrated capabilities in GIS.
- Minimum 2-5 years of ESRI ArcGIS experience.
- Hands-on knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Software, including ArcMap and ArcPro.
- Ability to work with vector and raster datasets.
- Experience using ArcGIS Online.
- Familiar with GPS data collection and data management, including ESRI Field Maps.
- Ability to use and edit shapefiles and geodatabases.
- Experience working with different coordinate systems, map projections, and datums.
- Familiarity with standard cartographic methods and principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple assignments, determine and set job task priorities.
