T&T Supermarket Inc., Canada’s largest Asian grocery chain, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, is now HIRING! A small sourcing office in Los Angeles will be set up to grow T&T’s vendor base with American food suppliers.
Headquartered in Richmond, BC, T&T Supermarkets is the largest Asian supermarket chain in Canada, operating stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. The stores feature an expansive variety of fresh produce, meat, seafood, Asian packaged goods, trendy kitchenware and gifts, as well as in-store kitchens and bakeries. T&T Supermarkets was founded in Vancouver in 1993 and is now led by second-generation successor and CEO, Tina Lee. In 2009, T&T Supermarkets was acquired by Loblaw Companies Limited.
The role:
Reporting to the Category Manager, the Buyer is responsible for supporting the domestic buying activities for T&T Supermarket, as well as providing assistance to the manager and the team in the end-to-end purchasing process by following up on orders and deliveries, compiling reports, performing data maintenance and communicating with local vendors and Department Heads.
Major Responsibilities:
· Generate reports and performs analysis on product selection, sales, pricing, market reports, and other related data as required
· Negotiate and replenish grocery or perishable products (Produce, Seafood, Meat) at competitive market price, while ensuring accurate delivery
· Share best practices and maintain knowledge of emerging trends through networks with internal and external stakeholders
· Provide assistance in establishing pricing guidelines and maintaining sales plus gross profit expectations
· Understand customers’ needs and partner closely with local suppliers in sourcing new and seasonal products in a timely manner
· Create forecast for promotion
· Develop and maintain vendor partnership, programs, sponsorships, and product promotions
· Coordinate deliveries with vendor and receivers, maintain optimal inventory and product quality
· Provide assistance to end users on merchandising issue
· Provide assistance to operations specialists as required
· Provide assistance to Merchandising Dept. as required
· Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the manager
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:
· A minimum of 2-3 years relevant experience in supermarket chain
· Able to demonstrate enthusiasm in delivering all the job responsibilities within the given timeline
· Strong technical knowledge of product categories, specification, pricing, including product grading & standards, CFIA regulations and mandatory standards required
· Proven negotiation skills with sound business judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills, possess a good knowledge in US trade practices
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is an asset
· Proficient computer skills (Microsoft office programs)
· Excellent interpersonal, time management and organization skills
· Ability to travel locally and overseas as required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
