Summary

VCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire a Groundskeeper within their Physical Plant unit to maintain a healthy, safe, attractive landscape on the Academic and Medical Campuses. Complete assignments in a timely manner in accordance with department standards. Observe and report waste/landscape maintenance needs. Inform supervisor of problems with particular task and seek direction. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday), holidays and special events (after hours) as needed.

Minimum Hiring Standards

• A high school diploma or GED.
• Able to perform a repetitive, physically demanding task daily.
• Able to safely operate vehicles in a congested environment.
• Able to work and communicate effectively with others.
• Able to read, write and speak English.
• Able to use a personal computer to enter accurate time cards and charge time against multiple work requests.
• General knowledge of professional landscape maintenance practices and grounds equipment and the safe operation of same.
• A valid Virginia Driver License is required
• Nights weekends and holidays may be required during special events, emergencies and inclement weather
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
• Other duties as assigned

Preferred Hiring Standards

• At least one year of residential, commercial, municipal, park, turf or horticulture experience working is preferred.
• VDACS Pesticide Registered Technician or Commercial Applicator Certification in category 3A or #B is preferred.
