Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for the day to day management and oversight of the New Mexico National Guard Military Museum and two (2) full time employees and volunteers. The museum Director is responsible for administration and operation, programming and exhibition development and maintaining and researching the collections.
How does it get done?
Directs the museum's operations, to include development, education, special event planning, external communications and staffing. Manages and leads a full time staff of two (2) museum employees. Manages, secures and maintains the property and facilities of the Museum as well as the collection held in public trust. This position in conjunction with the Museum Foundation to develop the strategic direction and establish initiatives to fulfill the mission of the Museum and increase local, statewide, national and international awareness and prominence. Serves as spokesperson and chief advocate for the Museum. Establishes strong partnerships in the community. Enhances the Museum's public image to expand interest and support. Direct the overall development of public relations and marketing initiatives. Develops an effective communication plan to raise the profile of the Museum.

Ideal Candidate
Possesses a degree in Museum Studies.
Experience managing collections.
Experience in developing exhibits.
Management experience that includes supervision of employees.
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver¿s License with no limitations or restrictions. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Employment is subject to background check and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is done in a museum and office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting and standing. Could require lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasional out of state travel for training.
