Job Description

Home Care Companion, Sitter and Respite Aide

Department: Home Care

Job Title: Home Care Companion, Sitter and Respite Aide

Reports To: Home Care Supervisor

Status: PRN - Hourly

A. Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides companionship and emotional support.

2. Provides transportation for medical appointments, shopping, social events, or recreational activities.

3. Accompanies clients to recreational and/or social events.

4. Gives medication reminders and assistance as permitted by policy.

5. Writes or types letters/correspondence; organizes and reads mail.

6. Household management, including meal planning, shopping and preparation; light housekeeping; laundry.

7. Performs pet care.

  • Reports for shifts on time and demonstrates reliability.
  • Accepts new client assignments and displays reasonable flexibility in work schedules.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of client and agency information.
  • Has the ability to instill confidence in co-workers and clients by reacting calmly and appropriately to difficult situations.
  • Contributes to a pleasant work environment by maintaining professional demeanor.
  • Holds coworkers accountable for job performance in a diplomatic manner.

14. Timely and accurately completes and maintains records of work activities, observations, and hours of service.

  • Uses home and office supplies responsibly and efficiently.
  • Attends in-service trainings to gain and maintain skills.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable state and federal laws, as well as Penick Village Home Care policies and procedures.

B. Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Good home management skills (light housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, laundry).
  • Ability to work independently to creatively solve a broad range of problems, make sound judgments and work collaboratively with co-workers and clients.
  • Ability to be flexible and innovative.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Speak and write the English language understandably.
  • Valid NC driver license, a safe personally owned vehicle in good working order and adequate automobile insurance.
  • Basic computer operation skills: MS Office and email
  • Have smart phone access to complete required documentation.
  • Negative two part TB test, drug screen and criminal background check.

C. Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to reach above, below or at shoulder height, and bend, stoop, push and pull.

D. Attendance and Punctuality:

  • Gives proper notice when late or absent.
  • Requests time off in writing per policy.
  • A work week that includes weekends and Holidays.
  • Occasional overtime for schedule coverage and special events.

E. Safety:

1. Understands and observes general health and safety guidelines.

2. Uses personal protective equipment as necessary.

3. Reports unsafe working conditions or unsafe conditions in a client’s home.

Pay: $21,671.00 - $44,406.00 per year
