Full Job Description

Legacy Health is seeking experienced Medical & Hospital Coders. This job is FULLY REMOTE, as long as you live in the United States.

Experience required:

Hospital coding and/or Same Day Surgery Coding or Auditor for at least 3 years.

Inpatient coder/auditor must have at least 3 year experience with DRG, ICD-10-PCS assignment coding and/or auditing experience.

Same day surgery coder/auditor must have at least 3 years experience coding same day surgery coding and/or auditing experience.

Auditing requirements:

Ability to communicate why a code is incorrect, what the correct code should be, and why new code is to be used

Find conditions or complications that would change the DRG assignment

Understanding of payor rules (commercial and government) that affect coding assignment

Understanding of medical necessity guidelines and documentation requirements to meet these guidelines

Knowledge of when to query a physician for clarification or record amendment as needed for proper code assignment

Resources allowed for coding - authoritative vs. opinionated resources

Additional skills:

Time management - ability to meet deadlines and ask for assistance quickly to avoid delay in turn around times

Attention to detail - ensure codes are correct, no transposed numbers, and resources are accurate before submitting back to the client

Above and beyond - show value to the client by suggestions, education, or resource sharing to help the coder improve

Documentation education - ability to communicate what changes in documentation habits by the nurses or physicians would assist the coders in making accurate code selection

Quick learner - ability to learn new specialties as needed to expand coding expertise

Ability to follow directions and work independently

Computer proficiency as related to coding, resource research, and delivery of codes for submission to the client'
