LOCATION: Primarily stationed at Lake Terrace Convention Center; but work requires travel to all Hattiesburg Convention Commission (HCC) facilities. These include the Hattiesburg Visitors Center, Saenger Theater, Sixth Street Museum District and the Hattiesburg Zoo.


SHIFT:
Full-time; Varies - due to the irregular schedule of the Event Services industry, hours may fall in varying patterns even within the work week. Holidays and weekends are often busy times for events and the staff must be flexible and reliable. May work long hours to meet clients’ timetable requirements.
SUMMARY: Performs cleaning tasks, and minor repairs. Staff also provides porter service during events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Confers daily with Manager or Supervisor to review assignments for all facilities of the HCC and the HTC.
  • Performs tasks as required or assigned. These include but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, vacuuming, spot cleaning, washing, stripping and waxing of floors.
  • Researches, orders and maintains necessary janitorial equipment and supplies. Advises manager or supervisor when equipment malfunctions.
  • Notes and reports and building components in need of repair.
  • Makes minor repairs such as painting, patching, replacement of light fixtures, and filters as required.
  • Makes daily inspection of areas of responsibility before meeting with manager or supervisor.
  • Maintains a written inspection log.
  • Assists other facility personnel as directed.
  • Carries an operational two-way radio or pager at all times.
  • Carries out pre-event inspection. Designs and maintains a written checklist on a pre-event basis.
  • Performs event clean-up as required.
  • Insures facilities are cleaned and vacuumed; furniture dusted, chairs and tables arranged as requested.
  • Provides janitorial and porter service during events.
  • Advises manager or supervisor immediately of any damages resulting from an event.
  • Maintains a time management log for weekly reports.
  • Performs other duties, functions and special projects as assigned by the manager or supervisor. Run errands when needed; travel required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Work Experience
  • Two years experience with cleaning of a public assembly facility or a related industry. Formal training in current janitorial procedures and practices preferred.
  • Combination of education/experience may be evaluated.
Essential Job Qualifications
  • Must retain a valid Driver’s License and meet the eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business.
  • Must have transportation for required travel.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to see well enough to read fine print such as labels.
  • Able to speak and hear well enough to converse in person and on telephone.
  • Body mobility and stamina to bend, squat, lift, reach, carry, stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20lbs.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate small tools.
  • Tolerance to work under adverse conditions such as among dust, dirt, and cleaning agent odors and outdoors in heat and cold.
