The mission of Human Resources is to provide service in the areas of recruitment, benefits administration, consulting, professional and organizational development, and retention for administrators, faculty, staff and prospective employees of Virginia State University; for the purpose of, fostering the development of our students. This position serves as an assistant to the Recruitment team in providing exceptional customer service to the VSU Community throughout the various phases of the hiring process so that optimal employment levels are maintained and new employees receive an excellent onboarding experience.

A successful candidate in this position will be able to follow instructions and manage the recruitment timelines and service levels for assigned areas. This position may also assist Hiring Managers/Employment Specialists with scheduling interviews, creating Interview Packets, and checking references, processing background checks as needed. This position will also provide customer service calls/emails to Hiring Managers to discuss position progress, status, updates; helping to maintain open lines of communication with the Employment Specialist and assist with administrative and programmatic duties to include electronic recruitment maintenance, personnel file maintenance, BDM, etc.

This position will also assist in the onboarding process of new hires to the University by generating employee identification numbers, verifying I9 documentation and entering data into E-Verify. This position will have an understanding of the process and administration of Cardinal and Banner transactions for all new hires and rehires for faculty, administrator/professional faculty, classified employees, and wage and adjunct employees. This position will reviews actions to ensure coordination between Cardinal and Banner.


Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent GED program is required. A successful candidate must have strong customer service and interpersonal skills, some knowledge of human resource policies and procedures related to recruitment and selection. One must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and, to produce written material using creative forms of communication for diverse audiences, considerable skill in the use of Microsoft office suite. Strong data entry experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications
College coursework in personnel administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating the possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities preferred. Experience in Human Resource Information Systems, i.e. Banner, Cardinal preferred.
