Responsibilities:

HR Generalist (Bilingual)

Thompson Facilities Services requires a Human Resource Generalist, responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level, working closely with senior HR management in supporting the organization. This position supports a 24x7 operation of a non-exempt, skilled trades workforce and requires a lot of personal interaction with employees. It carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, and employment law compliance.

The primary objectives of this position are:

  • Development of effective HR policies.
  • Communication of HR policies and procedures to leadership, managers, and all staff.
  • Safety of the workforce.
  • Development of an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and high performance.


Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ability to assist managers and supervisors with communicating to an English- and Spanish-speaking workforce.
  • Works closely with the HR director to build a functional HR department to meet >150 non-exempt workforce needs. Takes action to make changes.
  • Builds a cordial working relationship with the Union and advises managers and leadership on Collective Bargaining Agreement-related concerns.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Administers employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, suggestion programs, employee satisfaction surveys, newsletters, employee focus groups, one-on-one meetings, exit interviews, and Intranet use.
  • Performs analysis to identify focus areas for superior workforce development, essential employee engagement, staff retention, and succession planning.
  • Recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote high employee morale and motivation.
  • Participates in investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth. Advises managers and supervisors in the progressive disciplinary steps. Counsels managers on employment issues.
  • Administers the performance management system.
  • Assists in establishing an in-house employee training system that includes training needs assessment, new employee orientation/onboarding, management development, cross-training, training impact measurement, and effective knowledge transfer.
  • Sets up an organized filing system. Uploads documents to the UltiPro system.

Qualifications:

Experience, Requirements, and Certifications

  • Bilingual, English-Spanish - (Desired)
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of experience as a human resources or talent management generalist (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the full spectrum of human resources function and subject matter.
  • PHR/SHRM-CP certification is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence.
  • Fluent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Powerpoint & Excel); Proficient capability to operate smartphones.
  • General knowledge in the use of the HR information system UKG (Ultipro) and iCIMS.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.


Working Conditions

  • This position operates on a university campus with exposure to waste, hazardous materials, wide-ranging outdoor weather conditions, stairs, sidewalks, etc. Work may be performed at all times and inside of various campus buildings where lighting and ventilation may be inadequate. Work is also performed on campus grounds and parking lots.
