Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Massey Cancer Center is seeking a full-time Human Resources Assistant to support VCU Massey Cancer Center’s Human Resources Team and its portfolio of staff & faculty searches. This role will assist the Manager of Talent Acquisition with development and execution of comprehensive, innovative recruitment strategies to attract diverse high-quality candidates both passive and active, for a wide range of positions, with the initial and primary focus on scientific and senior level faculty searches. Working with cancer center leadership and Massey Cancer Center’s HR Team, the HR Assistant will assist in the scheduling of virtual and on-site visits, participate in search committee meetings, and ensure inclusive and unbiased search processes in order to fill current and future positions.
Typical Duties
- Support all interview and campus visit planning and logistics
- Schedule interviews & calendar management
- Prepare itineraries
- Greet and assist candidates onsite
- Coordinate travel for on-site candidates
- Process travel reimbursements
- Maintain candidate database
- Resolve issues as fast as possible (e.g. interview cancellations)
- Assist with new hire onboarding (e.g. preparing documents, coordinating orientation agendas)
- Cross-trains on other HR team functions not necessarily related to recruiting to fill in when instructed
The ideal candidate will be a professional with significant, demonstrated experience in building and maintaining trusted relationships in a complex environment and contributing to a high performing team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Unwavering attention to detail
- Excellent judgement and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive issues and information
- Strong time management, organizational, and listening skills; efficient follow up and responsiveness
- Ability to project a knowledgeable and helpful image to clients, candidates and colleagues
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a high performing team
- Ability to provide the highest level of service with strong attention to details and prioritization skills
- Technically savvy with experience with Microsoft office suite
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven and highly visible environment
- Must be willing to do what is necessary to support the team – from coordinating candidate logistics to coordinating refreshments and lunch selections for search committees and candidates
- Demonstrated experience fostering a diverse and inclusive environment and an expressed commitment to do so while at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in executive recruitment and/or executive search process
- Familiarity with hiring practices and stages (screening, interview, assessment, onboarding)
- Experience using applicant tracking systems
