The Office of Self Sufficiency, which is part of the Oregon Department of Human Services, is looking for a talented individual to serve as a Lead Worker in the Virtual Eligibility Center (VEC). District 13 has branches in La Grande, Baker City and Enterprise, Oregon. The selected candidate will have the option of selecting the branch they will be based at.
This position has the potential of having a hybrid schedule!
Do you like non-conventional hours? Do alternate work hours better support your lifestyle? The Virtual Eligibility Center has hours from 7am – 7pm and this position has the potential to work 9am – 6pm or 10am – 7pm!

What you need to qualify

Two years of experience determining eligibility for an agency program (e.g., cash assistance, medical assistance, food stamps, etc.); AND
-
For CAF - One year of experience in Self-Sufficiency (SSP) programs; Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Employment Related Day Care (ERDC), Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), Medical, Long-Term Care – Medical needs for elderly and disabled (LTC), Domestic Violence Assistance and Refugee Assistance.
Essential attributes
We are looking for candidates with:

Experience working in a social/human service setting interviewing customer in person and over the phone to obtain information and determine eligibility
-
Experience writing notices, reports and narration of eligibility determinations or payment errors, researching and applying policy to eligibility, accurately using basic mathematics in a work environment determination.

Experience communicating decisions, rules, policies, and procedures. Experience conducting reviews of eligibility determinations or payment errors.

Experience determining eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and/or other DHS medical programs, Employment Related Day Care (ERDC), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or other Federal or State assistance program

Your duties at a glance
The Self Sufficiency Offices help with food benefits (SNAP), cash for families (TANF), childcare assistance (ERDC), medical, refugee services, and domestic violence. Self-Sufficiency Programs Mission: To provide a safety net, family stability and a connection to careers that guide Oregonians out of poverty.

The purpose of this position is to act as a resource to staff for policy and procedures, oversee the benefit and eligibility process ensuring that programs are determined correctly. This is accomplished through providing mentoring, coaching, training, and guidance to Benefit and Eligibility workers and Family Coaches.

The Benefit and Eligibility Specialist functions as part of the leadership team, acts as a lead worker for staff, may act on behalf of the Branch Operations Manager in their absence, and is a resource when they are present.

May require being at a terminal or telephone for prolonged periods of the workday.

Job is fast paced with a high volume of client contact, keyboarding computer entry, and paperwork.

May interact with clients who are under emotional or financial stress.

Employee will be work a 9am – 6pm or 10am – 7pm shift to accommodate business need.

Work can require travel, including overnight.
