Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The HVAC Mechanic performs preventive and predictive maintenance, complex diagnostic and repairs to large commercial HVAC equipment and systems, system controls, and domestic hot water generating systems.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and 5 years related work experience.
Must have SC Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications
5 years experience; Trade School or Apprenticeship helpful; Journeyman Card helpful.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the HVAC field. Knowledge of tools, equipment, material and supplies used in HVAC. Skill in the use of various trade tools and equipment. Skill in making emergency and general repairs and adjustments to equipment used in building and maintenance work. Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities. Problem-solving and good judgement. Ability to understand and apply University and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to comprehend blueprints and plans. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to plan operations. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use judgment and initiative to complete routine work without constant supervision.
