POSITION PROFILE
We are looking to hire an IBMi Systems Engineer to join our team. Our team supports existing customers on a day to day basis, as well as onboarding new customers. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of IBMi Operations, backup and recovery, replications, external storage, and IOS for the IBMi environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, Implement and support various aspects of the IBM i (AS/400) platform
- Maintain and deploy any required operating system upgrades and PTF installations
- Design, maintain IBM iSeries backups utilizing BRMS, FSFC, and VTL
- Perform Tuning and Capacity planning as required for all IBM iSeries Systems/Logical Partitions
- Provide tier-3 support for operations and applications teams where possible
- Assist with various object implementations when requested and adhere to IBM iSeries object level security best practices
- Task oriented, capable of managing multiple work streams while maintaining focus on results
- Provide 3rd tier support for escalated issues regarding customer systems
- Ability to communicate clearly in a large enterprise environment
- Able to support 24/7 on-call
- Perform basic hardware maintenance activities
- Understand and recommend IBM OS400 system and user security
- Provide technical support, training and direction to NOC staff and other team members
- Configure partitions and systems using the Hardware Management Console (HMC)
- Interface to vendor support organization(s) and work through problem resolution
- Knowledge of BRMS and enterprise tape library architecture (save/restore), expert level preferred
- Knowledge of Mimix replication software, or similar software experience
- Knowledge of Help Systems tools such as CCSS, Robot Scheduler, Robot Alert, or similar software
- In-depth knowledge of IBM iSeries operating systems and all core feature sets
- General knowledge of VMware virtualization technologies a plus
- General level of technical knowledge of multi-vendor physical servers
- Experience with PowerVM and VIOS a plus for future designs
- Proficient in LPAR design, build and validation (Logical Partitioning)
- Proficient in planning and upgrade of the IBM I operating system (OS/400) and HMC/Firmware
- Proficient in IBM iSeries work management
- Knowledge of network protocols and troubleshooting skills
- IBM iSeries TCP/IP configuration and NETSTAT troubleshooting
- Proven ability to interface with all levels of management
- Experience working for a large organization a plus
- Install and configure PowerVM/VIOS
- Manage external storage on IBM flash systems and/or other IBM storage technologies
- Working knowledge of iASP
- Working knowledge of PowerHA
- Knowledge of DB2 mirror
