This manager role is responsible for a team of professionals designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining application software in accordance with the needs of the organization. This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of technical development and integration initiatives, including software, packaged systems, and SaaS/PaaS components. Assigned systems will support agent onboarding and compensation systems within insurance environment.

Development managers are expected to manage multiple major development efforts through an iterative development cycle in support of Ameritas' business partners and initiatives. The role requires technical leadership capabilities, effective resource management and development abilities, and strong organizational and communication skills.

Leading effective teamwork, communication, and collaboration across multiple disparate groups with competing priorities will be necessary in this role. This will require strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills; and the ability to effectively communicate with senior and executive management.

What you do

  • Manage the development lifecycle of software and packaged products, including creating and executing technical roadmaps to ensure the security, maintainability, and efficiency of Ameritas' technical assets
  • Platform owner of vendor SaaS solutions as well as the internal applications built to support the business capabilities which includes overall project delivery, delivery process, delivery impediment resolution, aligning roadmaps with vendors, aligning roadmaps with business partners and supporting the ecosystem.
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate development efforts across disparate development teams within Ameritas and with external business partners and third-party vendors
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies, processes, and procedures to add new technological capacities, reduce technical debt, and increase efficiency
  • Lead and manage multiple complex and strategic initiatives
  • Oversee application performance monitoring, evaluation, and optimization
  • Maintain application road map and work with all stakeholders to set priorities which achieve specified outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendor partners.
  • Partner with other IT teams in identifying, evaluating, selecting, and implementing specific technologies that support the business plans and IT strategies
  • Remain current on new developments and forecast future trends in application development and integration for the Producer Onboarding and Producer Compensation ecosystem.
  • Manage delivery and SLAs by guiding incident resolution, problem management, maintenance, and enhancement tickets raised by end users.
  • Oversee the interviewing, evaluation, selection, and hiring for team. Create a high performing culture within team through associate coaching, development, and engagement.
  • Onboard, train, and assist in directing the continuous development of employees

What you bring

  • 5-7 years of experience in the I.T. development field required
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Ability to effectively organize, manage, and deliver multiple concurrent initiatives required
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously making good decisions on approach, priorities, and solutions required
  • Hands-on experience with modern development languages and tools, including Java, relational and no-SQL databases, and CI/CD required
  • 4+ years' experience managing, or leading development teams or development projects desired
  • Project management or SCRUM master experience desired
