Essential Duties

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

Assist clinic staff (nurses, doctors, clinicians and clerical staff) by interpreting/translating registration information, health histories, present medical problems, personal data and interpreting/translating instructions and health education information to non-English speaking clients at our three clinical locations.

Translates in the COVID Vaccination Clinic as needed.

Checks the Spanish line; returns calls to clients to get information regarding their needs, scheduling the appointment and/or assisting them in getting answers to any questions or concerns they may have. Forwards medical concerns promptly to the appropriate triage nurse.

Make home visits with nursing and/or social work staff when needed to translate for non-English speaking clients when home visit intervention is needed. May translate for other divisions such as Environmental Health, in the community.

Provides written translation of forms, pamphlets, or other written materials when needed.

Performs miscellaneous clerical duties as needed daily.

Assist in preparedness and emergency response activities in situations that threaten the public’s health (i.e. disease outbreaks, natural disasters, etc.).

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED is required. College degree with a major in languages or social sciences is preferred. One (1) year experience providing medical interpretation. Must be fluent in Spanish and English. Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology in both English and Spanish is required. Knowledge and acceptance of diverse cultures is essential.

The candidate selected must pass a medical translation certification test prior to beginning employment.

Must have a valid driver’s license. The candidates selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a pre-employment drug screening test prior to employment.
