Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Janitor is responsible for performing the duties described below to ensure the achievement of production objectives consistent with company quality standards and customer delivery requirements. The Janitor will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

The general purpose of the Janitor is to maintain the cleanliness of the facilities:

  • Perform a variety of custodial, maintenance, and janitorial assignments to keep building and grounds in good and orderly repair.
  • Keeps internal plant, buildings and grounds in clean and orderly condition, performing combination of sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, painting, mowing, operation of yard equipment, etc.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties such as running power sweeper, rest room clean-up, office cleaning, trash collection, washing walls, etc.
  • Mows lawn to maintain a neat and well groomed place of business.
  • Participates in the Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) by contributing ideas for improving safety, quality, and/or productivity. Recommends solutions to ongoing issues
  • Takes the initiative, promptly seeking his or her next task requiring minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement to reach goals and raise the bar.
  • Ensures proper maintenance to maintain plant housekeeping standards.
  • Participates in the Performance Evaluation Process by fully engaging in discussion with supervisor about performance. Demonstrates competency by achieving a satisfactory rating.

In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all positions are also responsible for:
  • Performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and see. The employee must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to work near wet or humid conditions (non-weather).

The noise level in typically loud in this work environment. Hearing protection is required.

Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
