JOB SUMMARY :
The Kitchen Manager will manage the kitchen, develop menus and prepare food while following food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. The individual in this role should safely handle knives and equipment including grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, etc. Responsible for all aspects of running the cafeteria including delegating tasks to Cafeteria Assistants.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The requirements listed below are representative of the essential duties required:
- Creates menus for breakfast & lunch in advance.
- Must adhere to all food preparation safety standards.
- Develops, compiles, and maintains food records.
- Responsible for ordering all supplies needed to run the cafeteria.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and safe work environment.
- Must be Servsafe Certified or equivalent.
- Responsible to cash out the register and provide Accounting with backup.
- Responsible for training any new employees.
- Responsible for washing cooking equipment such as pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other pieces.
- Must have the ability to work with others in a close fast-paced environment and the ability to address customers in a pleasant, courteous manner.
- Other duties as required.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Employee works independently.
- Employee exercises discretion within area of responsibility.
- Employee advises others within the organization on matters within area of expertise.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and delegate work to Cafeteria Assistant(s).
- Acts as a lead resource for others in the department but does not directly supervise other employees.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Basic understanding of, or ability to learn, sanitation and regulations for workplace safety.
- Basic understanding of, or ability to learn, food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures.
- Position requires basic data input into company software systems such as email or customer service database (ordering the food).
- Basic ability to read and speak/understand English.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two to five years of experience in a cafeteria setting.
Specialized training or certification required.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Demands/Efforts
- Some walking, moving, carrying, bending, & reaching.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Mental & Visual Demands
- Work is routine and consistent from day to day.
- Work occasionally requires visual effort for extended periods of time.
Work Environment and Hazards
- Able to work in hot conditions.
- Exposure to hazards that could result in injury and loss of time at work (improper use of kitchen equipment, etc.)
- Some exposure to heat, or other factors of minor inconvenience.
