The current vacancy is in the Law Library. The eligibility list created by this vacancy may be used to hire other vacancies in the department or County.
The basic function of this position is to organize and shelve library materials such as books, periodicals, and pamphlets; to file loose-leaf updates and other supplements into existing materials; to support the law library’s use of technology including website and social media functions; to staff the circulation desk, checking library materials in and out, collecting fees, and maintaining manual and on-line records; to respond to general questions and to provide assistance to customers in person and on the telephone; to keep the physical premises looking organized and welcoming; and other duties as assigned.

- File updates into a variety of loose leaf materials and add supplements to multi-volume sets.
- Shelve library materials by arranging them in alphabetical order or according to Library of Congress number.
- Plan shelving of materials to give priority to more popular/heavily used items, so that those items will be available to meet patron demand.
- Push book carts weighing over 300 pounds and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Check library shelves on a periodic basis to ensure that materials are being maintained in proper sequential or alphabetical order, and reorganize materials as needed.
- Maintain and develop the law library website; add user guides and helpful content; develop new applications to reach remote users (e.g. blogs, wikis, social media).
- Compile statistical and usage reports.
- Staff the circulation desk, check library materials in and out, collect overdue materials, answer phones and route calls, and provide assistance in person or over the phone to customers with general questions.
- Provide general information to customers and refer them to librarians for further assistance as needed.
- Straighten bookshelves and common areas of the library to maintain orderliness and increase the aesthetic appeal of the facility.
- Input on on-line systems such as Microsoft Excel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: Six months library experience or equivalent.
Preferred: Paralegal degree or other experience working within a legal field.
