JOB PURPOSE:

This position is accountable for coordinating the instrumentation ordering, repairs and management for the sterile processing department as well as for other departments within the hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assessment, planning, ordering, negotiating, coordinating and facilitating all instrumentation needs.
2. Participation in the acquisition of capital equipment and instrumentation needs.
3. Develop and manage consignment inventory lists.
4. Works closely with vendors to ensure timely delivery of instrumentation and supplies.
5. Performs research for the evaluation of new product requests.
6. Instrument Management System maintenance, which includes but is not limited to building count sheets, adding/deleting instrument sets, building reports based off of usage and other duties deemed necessary.
7. Monitor instrument set inventory and order missing instrumentation as needed.
8. Works closely with OR designee to acquire instrument sets requested by OR Physicians.
9. Orders and restocks instrumentation required to meet processing needs.
10. Monitor and maintains instrument set inventory and par levels.
11. Other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
  • Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.

  • Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications, Microsystems (SPM) Instrument Management System, excel, power point and the internet.
  • Ability to consistently lift a minimum of 25lbs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School Graduation or GED
Completion of an accredited sterile processing or surgical technology course. Online programs that do not offer hands on instruction or experience will not be accepted.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
5 years' experience in the surgical services environment with minimum of three in sterile processing department and remaining two years could be filled with Materials Management or Operating Room experience.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician from one of the two certification boards (IAHCSMM or CSPD) within one year of hire.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Surgical Instrument Specialist Certification preferred.
Working knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
5 years' experience with specialty instrumentation, devices, and equipment.
