Canandaigua Montessori School (CMS) is seeking a Lead Primary Teacher for our 3 - 6 classroom starting August 29, 2023. The teacher guides the children’s work academically, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori environment that meets and challenges each child’s needs in accordance with Montessori philosophy. The lead teacher position would be working with children ages 3-6 years old. We operate on the Canandaigua School Calendar and are closed for all vacations and holidays, including Summer break.

About:

The Lead Teacher is a key role at Canandaigua Montessori School, responsible for providing a nurturing and engaging educational environment for students and implementing Montessori philosophy, principles, and practices in the classroom. The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering lessons, guiding students' learning and development, and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom culture.

Key Responsibilities:

· Curriculum Implementation: Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons based on the Montessori philosophy and curriculum, and in accordance with the needs and interests of the students. Create a prepared environment that encourages exploration, independence, and self-directed learning, and use Montessori materials to facilitate students' understanding of concepts and skills across various subject areas.

· Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a well-organized, safe, and stimulating Montessori classroom environment that promotes students' engagement, curiosity, and independence. Set clear expectations for behavior, provide positive guidance, and discipline, and manage classroom routines and procedures effectively.

· Individualized Instruction: Observe and assess students' progress, strengths, and challenges, and use this information to tailor instruction to meet their individual needs. Provide individualized guidance and support to students, including those with diverse learning abilities and styles, to ensure their success and development.

· Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of students' progress, assessments, and observations, and use this information to provide regular feedback to students, parents, and colleagues. Prepare and submit reports on students' academic and social-emotional development as required by the school or regulatory agencies.

· Parent Communication: Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, and provide regular updates on students' progress, achievements, and areas for improvement. Collaborate with parents to support students' learning and development and address any concerns or questions they may have.

· Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to deepen understanding of Montessori principles, stay updated on best practices in Montessori education, and enhance teaching skills. Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive and collaborative work culture within the school.

· Classroom Environment Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the Montessori classroom environment, including Montessori materials, furniture, and equipment. Conduct regular maintenance checks and make necessary repairs or replacements as needed.

Qualifications:

· Degree in Education, experience in Montessori Education, or related field preferred.

· CDA Required

· 5+ years’ experience as a Lead Teacher or assistant teacher in a pre-school classroom preferred.

· Knowledge of Montessori philosophy, principles, and practices, and ability to effectively implement them in a classroom setting preferred.

· Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

· Excellent observation, assessment, and individualized instruction skills.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

· Proficient record-keeping and reporting skills.

· Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement in teaching practices.

· Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive and collaborative work culture within the school.

· Passion for Montessori education and dedication to fostering the holistic development of students.

Our School:

Canandaigua Montessori School was founded in 1973 and has been an important part of the community ever since. The school currently has five staff members and serves a total of 50 children, ages 18 months through six years old. CMS currently has a Toddler Classroom, two Primary Classrooms, offers wrap around care, and summer programming. The school is governed by a Board of Directors.

The primary purpose of Canandaigua Montessori School is to encourage the acquisition of skills and attitudes that will form the basis of a love and desire for life-long learning and discovery. In addition, we hope to guide children to become independent, self-fulfilled and responsible individuals and members of their communities. All of this is done through the foundation of the Montessori philosophy and principles and best educational practice.

CMS is located in beautiful Canandaigua, NY, which is in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region. Canandaigua is located at the northwest end of Canandaigua Lake and is 30 mins from Rochester, NY, an hour to Syracuse, NY, and an hour and half to Buffalo, NY.
