The Pricing and Legal Project Management team supports partners with the full spectrum of pricing and legal project management needs, including the creation and management of alternative fee arrangements, development of product pricing strategies and novel approaches to important business problems that impact client acquisition, retention and profitability.
The Legal Project Manager will help jump start the project management function by coordinating matter intake, budgeting, tracking and reporting along with other tasks related to legal project management.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Accountable for the management and adoption of the project management systems in the firm for all fixed price matter and matters that have budgets
- Keep the firm’s partners engaged on their matters while implementing best practices in LPM
- Utilize proven project management techniques to support the efficient management of the firms largest and high-profile clients and matters through all stages including scoping, framing, budgeting, planning, managing, monitoring, and evaluation
- Work closely with the attorneys and the pricing team on developing matter budgets and staffing strategies and deploying firmwide training on Legal Project Management
- Support training and implementation of project management system in the firm
- Tracks projects – budget vs. actual and gets in data from attorneys on actual progress of the matters.
- Provides key information and reports of the status of projects to account managers, project managers, partners, Director, Pricing and Project Management and CFO.
- Liaise with client’s internal legal operations teams and prepares reports that need to be sent to the clients on certain projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business or any related field (JD or MBA is a plus)
- 5+ years of project coordinating or project analyst or project management experience in the legal industry
- Assist with identifying opportunities for process improvement initiatives and knowledge management projects and, where appropriate, help develop and evangelize best practices
- Understanding of financial terms and metrics and ability to analyze metrics to adjust needed levers to improve client and matter performance
Skills & Knowledge
- A proactive, self-starter, with a drive to grow the function and grow along with it.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining strong relationships
- Documentation management and ability to use project management tools
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Comfortable with analyzing and managing data
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- High degree of efficiency in excel and PowerPoint.
