Representative Lisa Reynolds(she/her) of Oregon House District 36 is looking to hire a legislative assistant (LA 2) to join her exciting and fast-paced legislative office. We are focused on improving the lives of Oregonians, especially the youngest and most vulnerable among us. This is a full-time, limited-duration position beginning in November 2022 and running through June 2023.

We are relentless in providing clear communication, both in our mass communications (social media, email newsletters, etc.) as well as in our individual interactions with constituents, colleagues, and each other.

This dynamic team engages with people all across the legislative branch including other legislators and their staff, Oregon House & Senate leadership, clerks, security guards, and more. The team also works with the lawyers and analysts who help craft law. And, our team collaborates with agency staff, advocates, and lobbyists. And, of course, we are accountable to our constituents, who we engage in solving their particular issues, as well as holding regular public events to and share our work and hear their concerns.

This role is a mixture of in-person and remote until January 2023 (the start of the Legislative session), when you will be expected to be in Salem 2-5 days a week, working remotely the other days.

We are looking for motivated teammates with the following interests and skills:

  • Policy: Advance the office and district’s policy goals. This includes working with legislative counsel, legislative policy research office, other legislators, staff, agencies, and advocates on bill language and amendments. This will also include managing opposition to legislative work, workgroup and task force management, and coalition building. Support the office's priority bills, and monitor committee, workgroup, and task force hearings.
  • Office Management: Take charge of scheduling, inbox management, answering emails and phone calls and checking voicemails, etc. Manage the email inbox tightly, with prompt responses.
  • Constituent Casework: Interact with agencies (and others) to solve constituent problems. Draft responses to constituent inquiries (email and phone). Track constituent casework and tally emails from constituents.
  • Outreach:

Social Media: Participate in pitching/developing, drafting, and posting regularly on all social media platforms. Emphasis will be on providing factual and timely information for the readership. Good knowledge and comfort with social media is a preference for this role.

Newsletter: Assist in crafting and sending the office’s newsletter using Mailchimp.

Town Halls: Staff town halls and other constituent events. These are majority virtual at this time but may transition to more in-person/hybrid.

Other: Attend other in-person or virtual district events, including representing the office at district or advocacy events if the Representative is unavailable.

About Representative Lisa Reynolds:

Lisa Reynolds, M.D., is a mother of two who has spent the last twenty years serving children and their families as a pediatrician in Washington County. She is actively involved in her community as a member of Moms Demand Action and has been on the front lines of the COVID pandemic and was an early advocate for strong statewide action on masks, social distancing, and expanded testing services.

Representative Reynolds was elected to the Oregon State House in 2020 and currently serves as Chair of the House Interim Committee on Human Services Committee, Vice-Chair of the House Early Childhood and House Behavioral Health Committees, and member of the House COVID-19 Response Committee and the Joint Ways and Means Natural Resources Subcommittee.

In the 2023 session, Rep. Reynolds is committed to continuing her work on gun violence prevention, building a stronger behavioral health system for our youth, and protecting the health and safety of all communities in the state. She has set a goal of cutting the number of children in poverty by half in the next five years. Her team works diligently to serve their constituents and strives to be as responsive and engaged as possible with the communities in House District 36.
