Associated Recreation Council is hiring a Licensed Childcare Center School-Age Aide for Alki Community Center. The Licensed Childcare Center School-Age Aide is responsible for engaging participants and leading activities for school-age participants between the ages of 5 and 12. The Licensed Childcare Center School-Age Aide is responsible for maintaining a safe, fun, inclusive environment welcoming to all. PAY RATE: $21/hr; non-exempt part-time position
SCHEDULE:
- Year-round starting September 1, 2022; Monday - Friday up to 23 hrs/week
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:00pm - 6:00pm and Wednesday from 1:00pm - 6:00pm
- The schedule may change during summer and break camps
- You may also be asked to work at other sites as needed
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
LEADERSHIP
- Actively supervises participants
- Implements activities as directed and follows curriculum
- Addresses behavior via positive reinforcement
- Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth
- Collaborates with team members to ensure the success of participants
- Communicates with team members, families, community center staff, and Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) staff and community partners
- Provides solution-based suggestions
SAFETY
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of designated program space(s)
- Provides a safe environment by ensuring emergency preparedness is followed
- Removes and avoids any potential hazards
- Communicates hazards to immediate supervisor
- Supports regular safety drills
- Reports and documents incidents/accidents to immediate supervisor
CARE & CUSTODY
- Conducts regular head counts and roll calls
- Maintains audio/visual supervision of participants at all times
- Maintains required staff to participant ratios (no more than 1:15)
- Ensures environments are well-maintained, developmentally appropriate and supports the needs of the program and its participants
- Provides positive transitions that maintain ratios/head counts to minimize the risk of unwanted behaviors
- Supports other organization sites and programs as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a community center environment or may be at various sites. This role may routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners and photocopiers.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends, position. The hours can vary between the hours of 6:00am-9:00am and/or 12:30pm-6:00pm during the school year. For break camps/summer day camp it varies Monday-Friday between 7:00am-6:00pm.
TRAVEL
Occasionally may need to work at another site as needed and directed by supervisor.

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE
- Must have High School Diploma (or be enrolled) or a GED required
- At least one year of experience working with children between the ages of 5-12 years old in a recreation or childcare setting is highly preferred
- One year experience supporting and following curriculum activities with a large group of children is highly preferred
- Experience supervising and directing children through programming is highly preferred
- Documentation of current First Aid/CPR certification, HIV/AIDS, blood-borne pathogens education and training, a valid Washington State Food Handlers permit, have cleared a TB test; 30 hours STARS training or documentation of exemption is highly preferred
- Successful completion of a WA State and Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable Background Check (PBC) certificate.
- Must be 14 years of age or older
- Valid Washington State Drivers license, Washington State ID preferred. School ID required, when applicable
