Job Description


Job Title: Licensed Vocational Nurse

Department: Medical

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Nursing

Location/Hours: Redding and Round Mountain, 4/10’s –no weekends or nights


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, performs triage of client needs per protocol as needed; prepares patient assist medications for dispensing to patient; processes new chronic pain clients per protocol; participates in referral processes including tracking; assist medical team with client care in clinic as needed; assists RN with dispensary services as needed; assist upper management with quality assurance; planning and implementing strategic goals.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned which may become essential to the position.


  • Patient assist medications: documents receipt of medication in patient chart after checking for correct dosage and directions; labels each medication appropriately and puts in dispensary for patient pick-up; notifies patient.
  • Verify new pain patient according to pain management protocol.
  • Verify patient’s charts to assure continuous flow of care.
  • Verify patient medication utilizing the 5 rights of medication.
  • Performs face to face or telephone triage, consults with RN or Clinician for advice or instructions to be given.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Assists in orientation of new staff.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Follow up of referrals.
  • Autoclaves instruments.
  • Case Management.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current licensure in California as LVN. Must have knowledge of standard nursing practices and processes of RN’s, LVN’s, MA’s and other nursing personnel.

Certificates and Licenses:

California LVN licensed. Must have current CPR certification, Blood Withdrawal Certification. Current drivers’ license and insurance.


Language Ability:

Must have intermediate level language skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before individuals, groups or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Must have basic math skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.


Reasoning Ability:

Must have very high level reasoning skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge basic working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet browsers. Must have working experience with medical management software such as Health Pro and Medi-Tracks.


Equipment Skills:

Must have good working knowledge of standard nursing equipment.

The work environment is an indoor business and medical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with normal business office, computer, printer and medical equipment noises.
