Summary

Under the close supervision of the department supervisor- tends fabricating machines such as presses, forming machines, automatic drilling & tapping machines, punch presses, grinders, and other production machines that cut, shape, and bend metal parts by performing the following duties. This is an entry level position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template. Positions work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade. Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine. Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction. Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation. Validates and records product dimensions to ensure part conforms to all required specifications. Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece.

Qualifications
To perform this entry job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. An Operator B is able to run a limited number of machines and or product lines. Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. An Operator B is an entry level position.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, memos, and documents such as safety rules. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. Ability to speak, read, and write in English.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems in situations where limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule from.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
