SUMMARY:

The Machine Operator will set up and operate machinery to accurately process a customer’s request for shipment, complying with all fulfillment, operations and safety procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate machinery, e.g., NPI, correctly to sort and process mail and consistently meet or exceed machine production standards and in accordance with DHL’s quality process standards
• Perform machine preventative maintenance and basic mechanical duties to troubleshoot and resolve identified issues
• Inspect the machine prior to operating, to ensure its maximum efficiency
• Prepare mail by utilizing processing specifications installed in the machine
• Audit/observe machine performance with a critical eye to reduce rejected mail
• Maintain cleanliness of work area
• Duties may include reassignment to alternate operational areas as business needs require
• Essential duties are not necessarily exhaustive and may be supplemented or otherwise revised by DHL at its sole discretion

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• High School or equivalent training and/or least 6 months related experience preferred

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

• Ability to speak English
• Understand and carry out oral instructions; read and carry out written instructions
• Understand standardized math processes, e.g., addition and subtraction
• Determine malfunctioning of units by observing; determine nature and location of malfunction
• Perform repair and maintenance of automation or other equipment
• Make adjustments to obtain specified operating conditions such as turning valves; switches, moving and setting controls, adjusting speed, etc.
• Work under pressure and rapidly for long periods of time

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Constantly stand in a stationary position to successfully operate the machines
• Frequently move mail and parcels weighing up to 50 pounds; may include frequent bending, lifting, pushing and pulling
• Will frequently examine, fix, and operate machinery, which may include bending, kneeling, twisting and reaching
• This is a warehouse environment where frequently this position will be exposed to cold, hot and changing temperatures; will constantly experience noise at medium level not damaging or loud enough to require protective equipment; will frequently be exposed to dust, dirt and changes in lighting
