Qualifications:

N.C. teacher certification in Chinese required; Fluency in Mandarin (simplified) Chinese required, with ability to write in Pinyin. Experience developing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) curriculum and problem-based learning experiences preferred.

Job Goal:

To create a flexible Chinese language instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to accomplish these goals in Mandarin Chinese during the instructional day; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to thrive in a 21st century global society

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Instructs students in a classroom, utilizing the NC Standard Course of Study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Executes lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental level and interests of the students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to the students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and resources aligned with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Administers LEP testing documentation and records as requested.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interpret the school program. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assisting students to solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers and evaluates their job performance as requested.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Selects and requisitions Chinese books and instructional resources; maintains required inventory
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.·


Terms of Employment:

Ten-month year. Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
