Mandarin Chinese World Language Teacher
Salary:
NC Certified Salary Scale + local supplement

Qualifications:
N.C. teacher certification in Chinese required; Fluency in Mandarin (simplified) Chinese required, with ability to write in Pinyin. Experience developing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) curriculum and problem-based learning experiences preferred.

Job Goal:
To create a flexible Chinese language instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to accomplish these goals in Mandarin Chinese during the instructional day; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to thrive in a 21st century global society

Instructs students in a classroom, utilizing the NC Standard Course of Study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

Executes lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental level and interests of the students.

Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to the students.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques and resources aligned with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Administers LEP testing documentation and records as requested.

Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interpret the school program. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assisting students to solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers and evaluates their job performance as requested.

Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities.

Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.

Selects and requisitions Chinese books and instructional resources; maintains required inventory

Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.·
Ten-month year. Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
