The Manufacturing Engineering program at Brigham Young University is seeking outstanding faculty candidates who will challenge an exceptional student body through teaching and mentoring and contribute to excellent research programs. Exceptional candidates in all areas of Manufacturing/Industrial/Materials/Mechanical Engineering will be considered. Areas of expertise needed in the program include: Automation, Additive Manufacturing, Polymer and Metal Processing, Advanced Manufacturing, Quality, and Manufacturing Systems/Lean Manufacturing are encouraged to apply.

The program has state-of-the-art facilities in manufacturing processes, supercomputing, materials science/microscopy, and microelectronic fabrication. Excellent research programs exist in composites, additive manufacturing, materials joining and processing, automation, forming and fabrication, quality systems, and SMART manufacturing. Successful candidates will be expected to strengthen undergraduate and graduate education and to develop an outstanding research program to complement existing research or develop new research areas.

BYU students come from all 50 states in the U.S. and the National Survey of Student Engagement placed BYU in the 93rd percentile for level of academic challenge, 91st percentile in fostering active and collaborative learning, and 99th percentile in providing a supportive campus environment. The ACT score for the average freshman is above the 90th percentile nationally. Student teams from BYU consistently place in the top ten in national and international design competitions. Our students have an exceptional amount of experience in leadership and global settings (over 80 percent of graduating seniors speak a second language and/or have lived in a foreign country for over a year), so they are well prepared to become global leaders in engineering. We expect our faculty to challenge these outstanding students to reach their potential.

Professorial faculty candidates in all areas of expertise will be considered. Requirements for professorial candidates include a doctorate in Manufacturing Engineering or closely related field and a willingness to fully support and participate in the ideals and mission of BYU. BYU values teaching and successful candidates should demonstrate a desire and ability to effectively teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Meaningful research is highly valued and successful candidates will have a strong research plan and record commensurate with their experience.
