Position Summary

Performs duties required to receive, store, ship, and maintain records on component parts. Responsible for counting, checking, processing, and storing of all component parts. Use scales, postage meters, packing materials, stapling guns, tape dispensers, stencils, tools for labeling and addressing, hand trucks and forklift trucks.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for selecting and maintaining location(s) of raw materials.
  • Picks parts from preprinted pick lists and issues slips. Contacts planner and/or supervisor if shortage occurs.
  • Responsible monitoring the Material Request Que and delivering components to the proper production workers.
  • Receive customer orders and accurately select and check merchandise called for in the order.
  • Select proper cardboard flats and make necessary cartons. Pack merchandise using protection filler materials, as required.
  • Seal cartons with staples or tape, apply labels and addresses as prescribed using markers and stencils. Also perform bulk packaging on orders for domestic and export, and place goods on pallets. Fill out prescribed paperwork correctly and neatly.
  • Weigh shipments, determine necessary insurance, apply UPS, or parcel postage from postage meter and record on appropriate forms information necessary for others to calculate shipping charges for common carrier, air, or water freight shipments. Submits all paperwork to Distribution Clerk.
  • Assist, as required, in the loading of carrier's vehicles at the shipping dock.
  • Carries out proper verification methods as part of the cycle count program.
  • Responsible for filling Kanban and bread box systems etc., throughout the Facility.
  • Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to supervisor.
  • Maintains electric truck and fork truck in good operating condition. Maintains prescribed water level in batteries and plugs in for overnight re-charge.
  • Maintains necessary warehouse material handler records.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Use of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of numbers; use of schedules, computer scanning devices and skin wrapping machine; use of material handling equipment where interpretation is required involving basic skills knowledge.
  • 1-3 years' experience.
  • Ability to utilize crowbar, mallet, and Sawzall for crate opening.
  • Use of a tablet, computer, scanner.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment including forklifts, electrical hand trucks, pallet jacks and stepladder to reach material.
  • Ability to achieve all necessary certifications for use of material handling equipment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with ERP systems and utilizing software to drive warehouse data/operations.
  • Experience on Fork Truck e.g., Turret Style, Sit-Down, Stand Up, Drexel, Reach, and Order Picker.

Work Environment

The Material handler will work primarily in a warehouse setting.
