The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration’s (MDOT SHA) Office of Materials Technology (OMT) is currently recruiting for a Materials Management Systems Technician (Transportation Engineering Technician II) in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below by the closing date. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to assist the Materials Management Systems (MMS) Team Leader and Staff Engineer on key business functions, providing support to Area Material Engineering teams and Material Quality Divisions of OMT and external users of the MMS. The responsibilities of this position also include the entry, analysis, and reporting of MDOT SHA projects related data from various data sources. This position provides assistance with the management of user access to the MMS and will regularly interact with customers of the MMS including MDOT SHA users and external users such as contractors, suppliers, and producers on resolving system access related issues. This is an experience-level position that functions with direct supervision from the MMS Team Leader by applying a wider range of technical knowledge to a broader range of tasks.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Knowledge of software technologies, computer programming and database management philosophies in support of business functions related to material testing methods and specifications, highway engineering and construction principles

1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for the year of the required experience.
