CornerStone Ear, Nose & Throat is seeking an experienced medical coding and billing specialist to work in our billing office that is located in Monroe, NC. This position is a hybrid position where part of the job responsibilities can be completed remotely after training is completed. The Billing and Coding Specialist is responsible for working collaboratively with a third party billing company that is fully integrated with our companies EMR system, Modernizing Medicine. CPC or equivalent coding credentials are preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Knowledge of ICD-10 Coding and Medical Billing Guidelines.
• Main billing office contact for the third party billing company, which is called BOOST.
• Addressing denied claims and reassigning the claim back to the BOOST team when addressed.
• Generating bills and posting charges.
• Assist with insurance credentialing.
• Ensures that documentation supports charges to prevent denials/underpayments.
• Write appeals and include supporting documentation.
• Follows-up on missing charges and medical documentation, as appropriate.
• Identify problems on patient accounts and escalate to BOOST, when appropriate.
• Collaborates with medical staff to identify and implement appropriate documentation and coding modifications.
• Consults and provides feedback with medical staff and financial coordinators to identify reimbursable indications for treatment.
• Posting patient payments and refunds.
• Insurance verifications and authorizations.
• Posting patient responsibility for bills/charges, accessory surgery fees, medical record fee/payment.
• Scanning and uploading insurance correspondence in the Client Folder in Google Drive.
• Answers insurance related questions for employees and patients.
• Pull and post Wells Fargo payments from the website.
• Adding pricing to the fee schedule in Firm admin when pricing is missing.
• Setting up patient payment plans.
• Bank deposit drop-offs to First Citizens Bank located in downtown Monroe.
• Generating credit reports and sending out credit notices.
• Main CMS contact.
• Assist with answering phones and scheduling appointments, when needed.
• Assist with radiology/allergy/surgery precerts, when needed.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior medical billing and coding experience required.
• CPC or equivalent credentialing is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology knowledge.
• Knowledge of claims submission and collection process.
• The ability to work in a constantly changing environment, good judgment skills, and capable of making decisions with attention to detail.
• Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and coordinate workload with high degree of proficiency and accuracy.
• Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work easily and cooperatively with co-workers.
• Ability to work independently and follow through on tasks without direct supervision.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of patients’ medical records and adherence to all HIPAA policies and regulations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
