About the facility:
This role will be based at our Long Beach energy from waste facility. Also referred to as the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility (SERRF), this facility is on a 17-acre site and began commercial operation in July 1988. It serves the City of Long Beach and the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. The facility processes up to 1,380 tons of municipal solid waste per day, generating up to 36 megawatts (MW) or enough to power 35,000 homes. The facility also recycles approximately 10,000 tons of ferrous (steel) metals each year.
About the role:
The Maintenance Manager is a member of the facility’s senior management team, reporting to the Facility Manager. This position will be responsible for the overall management of facility mechanical, electrical & Instrument/Control activities
The Maintenance Manager must have the ability to work collaboratively with the facility management team, regional support, hourly employees and contractors. The manager must have the ability to create a culture where Safety is the #1 Priority.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Long term planning & scheduling of all maintenance activities on boilers, turbines and associated equipment.
  • Providing annual budgeting information and monthly forecasting up-dates.
  • Directing the mechanical supervisor/lead technicians and contractors on all daily and long term maintenance activities including prioritizing work activities, preventive maintenance scheduling, scheduled/unscheduled boiler, turbine generator outages and plant preservation projects.
  • Creating an environment that empowers employees to drive change and improve systems
  • Training employees on proper Maintenance work and trouble shooting skills
  • Providing oversight to ensure maintenance activities are performed in a safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Creating a culture of continuous improvement to maximize Adjusted EBITDA by improving reliability, optimizing production, and decreasing operating costs.
  • Performing and directing Root Cause Analysis for equipment/systems to improve reliability and performance.
  • Providing direct oversight for mechanical maintenance activities for internal employees and contractors.
  • Developing and/or hiring a high performing workforce to efficiently and effectively perform maintenance activities
  • Directing and providing oversight to plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute plant maintenance and outage activities to maximize plant availability/capacity.
  • Providing oversight to ensure schedules are developed/executed for Major Outages, RCOs, Forced Outages, and projects.
  • Providing direct oversight for the Work Week Management Program to include KPI reviews, Work Package Development, and PM/PdM optimization.
  • Reviewing operations and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
  • Providing oversight for the warehouse to ensure critical spare availability and adequate inventory.
  • Providing technical support for maintenance functions
  • Participating in Safety, Environmental continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assisting with developing/managing the PCMO, Building Services, and Capital budgets.
Position Requirements:
  • 5 years minimum maintenance supervision or reliability work experience in petro-chemical, utility, EFW or similar industrial environment.
  • Must be able to identify needs for improvement and implement change
  • Must have knowledge of maintenance budgeting and methodologies
  • Must manage spare parts inventory to optimum levels.
  • Good computer skills, able to work with ALM/Peoplesoft
  • Must possess good knowledge of electrical and instrumentation
  • Proficiency in planning and preventative maintenance management processes and systems
  • Current or previous use of the following:
    • Detail work/ job planning and work hazard analysis
    • Failure mode analysis and failure analysis techniques
    • Risk or criticality analysis for equipment or process
    • Industrial facility maintenance practices
    • Standard fault/ event tree construction and analysis
    • Knowledge of machinery vibration analysis methods, thermography, condition assessment via instrumentation and field experience performing each or other NDT methods.
  • Strong facility process understanding via P&IDs, drawings and specifications.
  • Safe working leadership.
  • Strong report writing skills and ability to commutate orally and in written format.
  • Strong ability to build team/culture at facilities/across the regions, (resource and best practice sharing)
