Job Title: Military and Veteran Community Liaison
Status: Full-Time/Non-exempt
Reports To: Director of Prevention
Location: Must be able to travel throughout Oregon. This statewide position can telecommute part-time and will also be required to travel frequently throughout the state of Oregon, including to attend veteran and military events and to meet with veteran-serving agencies.
Compensation: $23.50-$26/hr. DOE
About the Organization: Lines for Life is a regional non-profit that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.
Position Summary: This position will act in a multi-faceted role focused on growing and shaping Lines for Life’s Military and Veteran Services, through outreach and community partnerships, increasing community and stakeholder engagement, developing tools for measuring program efficacy, and operating in an interagency cross-matrix structure to serve the Oregon Military Connected-Community within Lines for Life’s mission statement.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the organization’s goals and philosophies.
- Grow utilization of services Lines for Life offers the Military-Connected Community (MCC).
- Shape, develop, and implement Lines for Life’s strategy to pivot towards a focus on Oregon MCC needs.
- Support other Lines for Life departments in their work centered on MCC.
- Develop and/or refine measurements to identify impact of engagement efforts and support program evaluation.
- Connect with Lines for Life external partners who also focus on MCC.
- Leverage existing partnerships to survey current gaps in care/need, specifically needs assessments and capacity development for the Oregon MCC.
- Strategize and develop Lines for Life Military and Veteran Services Program five-year plan.
- Convene and participate in Internal Advisory and Partner/Stakeholder Collaborations – establish and maintain internal/external relationships and administer/manage Lines for Life Military Services Advisory Group.
- Grow volunteer and workforce recruitment of individuals who have lived experience serving in the Military and /or lived experience as family members of those who have served.
- Serve as Lines for Life Subject Matter Expert consultant for internal and external Military and Veteran oriented requests and opportunities.
- Provide internal and external content specific trainings such as military/Veteran culture training, ASIST, QPR & CALM.
- Perform other duties, such administrative and organizational tasks as needed.
- *Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Veteran or current member of the United States Military
- Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in a social service field, or in lieu of a degree, or at least 3 years of relevant clinical or community organizing experience.
- Knowledge of the fundamental principles, methods, and theories of psychology, specifically with military and/or veteran populations and their families.
- Crisis intervention experience which could include experience from active-duty, National Guard or Reserve duty.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information concisely and effectively in ways that can easily be grasped by diverse learning styles.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and work independently with little supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and organizations.
- Ability to stay calm when handling stressful situations and skilled in problem-solving and leading small teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in serving military and Veteran populations.
- Experience launching new innovative programs to improve the lives of service members, Veterans, and their families.
- Care coordination, patient advocacy or navigation and/or case management experience.
- ASIST certification and/or qualified ASIST Trainer (T4T).
Work Schedule: This position will work four or five days a week. The schedule will be determined later and will occur between the hours of 6:45 am – 7:15 pm and may include working weekends or evenings to attend or conduct community or training events.
Physical Requirements: Work is primarily conducted in an office environment and requires the ability to sit or stand at a computer for extended periods of time.
Lived Experience: Lines for Life encourages individuals with lived experience to apply. The starting pay for this position is $23.50-$26/hr.
