Definition
Under the general direction and supervision of the director of maintenance or his designee, the millwright/general maintenance installs, repairs, rebuilds and aligns pumps, motors and balances fan units. Performs general maintenance work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least three years’ experience within the past five years in electrical pumps and motor troubleshooting repair and maintenance. Must have experience using computer programs to analyze motor performance, and must be able to align, balance and repair commercial fan units. Requires near journeyman level skills in four building crafts. Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Must have a valid, unrestricted state of Alaska driver’s license.

Additional Qualifications for Promotion to Millwright / General Maintenance Mechanic II*:
1. A thorough knowledge of all KPB facilities and their locations.
2. Ability to utilize all of the KPBM Millwright calibration tools and equipment competently and independently.
3. Ability to analyze complex issues quickly and efficiently, and provide and implement solutions.
Promotion to the II level is at the discretion of the Foreman with concurrence of the Director and may be contingent upon funding availability.
Essential Functions
- Repairs and maintains various pumps, motors and fan units.
- Performs all general maintenance work as assigned.
- Works with preventative maintenance program.
- Coordinates purchasing with appropriate personnel
- Cleans up after each project leaving area, job site and vehicle clean and safe.
- Works with blueprints, borough and state mechanical standards, specifications and International Building Codes.
- Works from ladders, scaffolding and man-lifts up to a height of 50 feet.
- This position may require flying in small aircraft and being away from home overnight.
- Must routinely transport heavy loads.
- May schedule and designate work assignments to crew members clearly, in both oral and written form during summer schedule.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate orally. Vision abilities required. Sitting is required occasionally. The employee must frequently transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.
