Network Security Engineer
Job description
ROLE:
The Network Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing of network infrastructure and related application components. A Network Engineer performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation, and training tasks to ensure the computer network performance meets company and user satisfaction. A Network Engineer also provides direction, information, and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a thorough understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, Routing, Subnetting, VoIP, VPN, HTTP/HTTPS, Certificates, Email, Spam, etc.) as well as corporate network communications.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of Local Area Networking, Wide Area Networking, Network Access Control, SD-WAN and Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.)
- Design, configure and maintain complex switching environments
- Design, configure and maintain complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications
- Configure and maintain firewalls, VPN concentrators, and security appliances for multi-site access to vital business applications
- Assist in the design of multi-site hub and spoke or mesh WAN including IP subnetting, routing, and high availability.
- Maintaining multi-site network operations to ensure consistent uptime and throughput.
- Install and configure necessary client and server software for network and telecommunication systems.
- Managing assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
- Responding to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors, etc. to provide technical assistance and support
- Troubleshooting malfunctions or outages of network hardware and software applications, telephones, and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.
- Supervising the administration of systems and servers related to network infrastructure to ensure availability of services to authorized users.
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Any other duties as assigned by management
Experience: Three to Five years of experience working with switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, ACL’s, etc. in a corporate business environment. Juniper experience or certification preferred
Education: Two years of college education, completion of a specialized course of study in a trade specific program, or completion of an extensive and specialized in-house training / apprenticeship program. Various industry recognized certifications are also preferred such as those issued by Cisco, Juniper, VMWare, Microsoft, Comp/TIA, etc.…
