Job Summary
The New Student Orientation and Transition Coordinator, reporting to the Assistant Director of New Student Orientation and Transition, is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and training of the New Student Orientation and Transitions’ (NSOT) undergraduate student staff who facilitate all NSOT programs and initiatives, coordinates Summer in-person NSOT initiatives, and coordinates transition experiences for particularly designated populations.
Essential Functions
- Manages the New Student Orientation and Transitions’ undergraduate student staff including recruitment, outreach, application, interview, and hiring functions.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive leader and leadership learning curriculum for staff.
- Coordinates training for staff in the Spring and Summer to ensure they are prepared to facilitate all NSOT programs and initiatives.
- Schedules and supervises staff for all NSOT programs and initiatives, including but not limited to coordinating staff meetings and accountability.
- Coordinate across numerous University offices including Campus Recreation, Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS), and the Stonewall Center to create and implement Summer in-person NSOT leadership and community building programs for first-year students and transfer students; including logistical support such as event set up, break down, and ensuring marketing/promotional materials are available.
- Contributes to collaborative models and plans for assisting new first-year and transfer students in their acclimation and engagement to campus.
- Supports “Ready for the U”, “Welcome to the U”, and the first semester transition plan and related logistics.
- Participates in ongoing development, implementation, evaluation and improvement of orientation programs for first year and transfer students.
- Keeps abreast of pertinent developments at the University, in higher education, and in the fields of student orientation, transition and parent and family services.
Other Functions
- Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.
- Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.

- Works collaboratively with other campus stakeholders to fulfill the mission of Student Affairs and Campus Life.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years’ relevant experience in student affairs or related services, with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience that can include supervision of student employees; or Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field and one (1) year relevant experience in student affairs or related services with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience that can include supervision of student employees.
- Current, valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the undergraduate student experience at a major research university.
- Demonstrated proficiency with using social media, websites, email and other contemporary and dynamic communications mediums.
- Demonstrated fluency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, including the ability to relate to students, parents and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to plan, establish priorities, and manage multiple demands and concurrent projects. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and complex environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional teams.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Typical office environment.
- Ability to lift to 30 lbs. without restrictions.
Work Schedule
- Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm.
- Required to work some nights and weekends.
