General Summary

The Occupational Therapist I provide quality rehabilitation and recovery services in accordance with the Rehabilitation Department and Department of Mental Health (DMH) policy and procedures as well as The Joint Commission (TJC) at all times to ensure quality care. The selected candidate will provide person centered and trauma informed Recovery and Rehabilitation services to adults of the Northeast Area who have psychiatric needs. This role also promotes and supports a recovery and resiliency model of Rehabilitation by implementing the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) 10 fundamental components of recovery. The Incumbent will work in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations which govern the privacy and confidentiality of information about patients. The Rehabilitation Services department has a foundation built upon teamwork by co-leading groups, embracing flexibility, and participating in various committees.

Please Note: This is a full time 40 hour position, Tuesday - Saturday 8:00am-4:30pm. Days off: Sunday/Monday

Duties and Responsibilities (These duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive):

  • Provide evaluation and/or specialized assessments if indicated and develops/ implements treatment plans for patients in need of Occupational Therapy Services.
  • Provides services and opportunities that promote continuity of care, community integration and ensure a recovery facilitating environment.
  • Uses a person-centered approach when providing Rehab services and assists and supports the development and implementation of a person-centered treatment plan.
  • Assists individuals served in developing individualized and person-centered rehabilitation/recovery goals and schedules and provides support in monitoring progress toward goals.
  • Works collaboratively with the individual being served to select treatment modalities.
  • Functions in the role of a Rehab Representative by participating actively on a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with other professionals, contributing to the Master Treatment Plan, and completing all related documentation.
  • Demonstrates understanding of billing and implements billing procedures within established time frames.
  • Responsible for preparing and completing all tasks related to the program(s) that they service to ensure that the individuals served receive quality treatment.
  • Responsible for escorting/transporting and supervising individuals receiving services.
  • Works toward maintaining a safe environment for individuals always served and staff.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner at all times and works co-operatively with staff from all disciplines.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of Tewksbury Hospital, the Hathorne Units, and the Rehabilitation Center.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of Rehabilitation and Psychosocial Occupational Therapy.
  • Ability to evaluate, develop, implement, and monitor Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy services.
  • Effective verbal communication and written skills.
  • Ability to follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement.
  • Ability to problem solve and maintain a professional manner in difficult and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply the policies and procedures of Tewksbury Hospital.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Recovery and Resiliency Model, experience supervising students, ability to function independently, understanding of motivational interviewing techniques and a comprehensive knowledge base of the components of community integration
  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Qualifications

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Occupational Therapist license issued by the Board of Allied Health Professions in accordance with Chapter 667 of the Acts of 1982.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
