Job description
Imagine a future where you lead our approach to scientific survey methods, research activities, mitigation efforts, and agency coordination to protect wildlife
Join us in this role where you’ll get exposure to critical scientific decisions, work with regulatory agencies and research institutions, and be engaged in a variety of permitting activities to support construction and operation of renewable energy projects. You’ll work closely with our scientists to ensure project success and meet our biodiversity ambition of a net positive impact to biodiversity by 2030.
Welcome to Permitting, Environment, and Marine Affairs (PEMA)
You’ll be part of the Strategic Permitting team where you, together with your colleagues, will work across multiple renewable technologies to support our portfolio of onshore wind, solar, storage, and green hydrogen projects across North America. This role is focused on onshore technologies but could also be requested to support offshore technologies if the candidate has interest and expertise.
You’ll play an important role in:
- advancing our survey, data management, and monitoring strategies pertaining to wildlife species, with a particular emphasis on avian and bat species and other natural resources, in coordination with our broader biological team and other technical specialists
- harmonizing our approach to siting, methodologies, and reporting activities across multiple projects
- supporting the delivery of various permit applications and studies, incl. site characterizations, avian/bat risk assessments, take permits, and local or state permits.
- engaging with our global team of wildlife scientists, biodiversity specialists, and innovation and R&D experts to develop and implement initiatives across the North American and global portfolios
- serving as a technical resource for our compliance team by analyzing mitigation and approval conditions, positioning projects prior to commitment, and engaging with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders, as well as leading reporting and incident response
- developing materials, such as presentations, media content, and open house posters to drive internal and external messaging of our scientific activities and partnerships.
To succeed in the role, you:
- hold a master’s degree or equivalent experience in population ecology, ornithology, ecology, evolution, organismal biology, environmental science, natural resources, or similar
- have expertise and previous working experience with survey protocols, scientific reporting, large data sets, and data management tools
- have experience preparing permitting documentation with an understanding of how environmental regulations related to avian and bat behaviors and habitats drive requirements for scientific surveys, assessments, and mitigation measures
- have experience evaluating technical and commercial project risks to support new technology application, agency discussions, and project due diligence
- can communicate with influence to enhance messaging regarding our activities and speak and write English fluently with strong Microsoft Office suite skills as preferred.
