Job Summary:
The Outreach Coordinator provides education, training, programming and outreach to the university community in an effort to promote services and resources of the department. The coordinator also facilitates the provision of reasonable accommodations for qualified students with disabilities and collaborates with students, faculty and staff to promote a supportive, accessible and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will be an effective and engaging presenter and communicator, possess creative problem solving skills and have knowledge of federal laws and regulations related to disability accommodations in the higher education setting. Some evening and weekend availability and travel to branch campus may be required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential
  • Coordinates the department's outreach and education efforts across the university. Represents the department at events and programming, including new student orientation, open houses, faculty/staff orientation. Serves as an advisor to the student affinity group.
  • Participates in university committees and collaborates with colleagues in developing campus wide programming.
  • Responsible for the determination of reasonable and appropriate accommodations, coordinates the implementation of accommodations and maintains timely and accurate electronic student records.
  • Advises students in the following: self-advocacy, rights and responsibilities in relation to disability accommodations, departmental policies and procedures, university policies.
  • Work effectively with faculty and university staff to coordinate student accommodations.
  • Shares in the staffing coverage for the department, including serving as a proctor for accommodated testing and coordinating notetaking services.
  • Stays abreast of current trends in the field.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, special education, disability studies or related field.
  • Experience in program and activity planning.
  • Knowledge of higher education disability policy.

Experience:
  • Work experience with individuals with disabilities in an educational or service support setting.
  • Experience in program and activity planning.
  • Knowledge of higher education disability policy.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a postsecondary disability services office supporting students with an array of disabilities and facilitating accommodations.
