Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinates critical incident (CI) response to all violent incidents involving youths and their families in the target area;
• Conducts strategic outreach to prevent retaliation after specific incidents;
• Coordinates and conducts gang/crew group and individual mediation activities to restore community justice as needed;
• Attends weekly meetings with staff from the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) to discuss youths leaving and re-entering the community from incarceration or probation;
• Coordinates referral process between outreach and case management;
• Follows up on individual youths and families to ensure they are linked to the appropriate services;
• Attends relevant community meetings and supports team leader in community education;
• Prepares/submits regular status reports;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma/GED, and at least (3) three years’ experience in youth violence outreach work; preferably as a street outreach worker or similar position; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience which meet the minimum qualifications requirement may be substituted.

Certification through outreach worker training required

The District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) conducts pre-employment screening on specified positions, which may include but is not limited to a criminal background check, drug and alcohol testing, verification of academic credentials, licenses, and certifications, and/or verification of work history.

This position has been designated by the department to require a drug and alcohol screening and background check. Finalist(s) for this position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing and will be required to consent to a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.
