Part-Time Custodial Position Description

Summary
St. Luke Church is seeking part-time staff to perform CUSTODIAL/CLEANING and REPAIR/MAINTENANCE tasks to clean and maintain the Church facility. Except as noted, tasks primarily impact the interior of the building. THESE POSITIONS
MAY BE SEPARATE OR COMBINED based upon the qualifications and interest of the successful applicant.

Duties
Tasks to be performed include, but are not limited to, the following. The work effort involved is estimated to be an average of 16 hours per week for Custodial/Cleaning tasks and 8 hours per month for Repair/Maintenance tasks.
Reimbursement will be hourly, rate to be determined based on Qualifications.

CUSTODIAL/CLEANING TASKS
General Responsibility:

• Maintain the building interior in a tidy, clean and welcoming condition.

Daily or as required

• Fill soap and towel dispensers
• Empty waste and recycling receptacles
• Pick up loose trash and debris
• Sweep floors

Weekly or as required

• Vacuum carpet
• Clean entry mats
• Mop and buff hard surface floors
• Clean and sanitize toilet rooms
• Maintain and stock custodial supplies
• Move Recycling containers to street for pickup
• Shovel snow or sweep dirt from entrance walkways

Yearly or as required

• Strip, wax and buff hard surface floors
• Shampoo carpet
• Turn on and off outside water hydrants, and Install/store garden hoses

As requested by Church staff

• Assist set-up and take-down for church events
• Assist church staff with occasional heavy moving/lifting

REPAIR/MAINTENANCE TASKS
General Responsibility:

• Perform preventative maintenance and repair tasks to keep the building interior in an attractive, safe, and serviceable condition.

Monthly

• Survey facility to observe and schedule repair and maintenance tasks
• Report findings, recommendations to Church staff
• Service toilets, lavatories and floor drains

As required, or as requested by Church staff

• Minor plumbing and electrical repairs
• Minor repairs to chairs and tables
• Minor repairs to floors, wall, and ceiling finishes
• Lubricate and repair doors, windows and hardware
• Change light bulbs (rare with LED’s)

For larger repair and maintenance projects

• Help organize, coordinate and monitor volunteers for projects such as painting.
• Help procure, coordinate and monitor outside vendors if needed.

Reporting
The Custodial and Maintenance person(s) report to the Senior Pastor for personnel issues, to the Church Secretary for building access and scheduling, and to the Building and Grounds Elder for custodial and maintenance duties.

Job Skills and Qualifications

• High school graduate or general education diploma (GED)
• Valid Minnesota driver’s license.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and be accountable for time and expenses.
• Demonstrated ability to work and cooperate with others in a Church, school, or other public environment.
• Demonstrated general knowledge of the required skills, including the use of related tools and equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
Sunday church services, memorial services, community events, meetings, lunches, dinners, and plays are representative of typical church activities.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $10.59 - $20.00 per hour
