POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Part-time/Temporary ESL/ELL Instructor
Program: Division of Community Education, Transition to Employment Services (TES)
General Purpose:
Under the direction of the Managing Director, to prepare and teach classes to adult English Language Learners. Classes are held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (12-18 hours a week).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops curriculum and teaches adult students in the English language program.
Facilitate CASAS testing. *CASAS certification required once hired.
Uses appropriate materials to support teaching, including technology in the classroom.
Provides an effective learning environment for every student through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, clear records of student progress, and support of academic achievement.
Monitors and assesses student performance and progress through lessons, assignments, and tests.
Manages classroom behavior by establishing and implementing rules and procedures.
Communicates effectively and interacts with a diverse ethnic and socio-economic population.
Maintains accurate and complete student attendance records and achievement progress.
Meets with other teachers to discuss best practices and student progress.
Connect the student with a case manager for supportive services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
BS/BA degree in related field. Expertise in the fundamentals of the English language. Experience teaching English Language fundamentals to adult learners. Experience teaching to culturally & economically diverse adult students. Comfortable and confident in incorporating technology into the classroom. CT Certification 088 preferred.
