JOB DESCRIPTION: Laboratory Assistant

JOB SUMMARY: Collect laboratory specimens from patients of all ages for testing. Perform general lab duties as outlined below. Conduct routine laboratory testing with supervision for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and perform related duties, following established standards and practices.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Have specimen collection knowledge of routine laboratory tests and assist with draws and collections as needed.

2. Provide great customer service when dealing with patients

3. Centrifuge samples

4. Answer laboratory phone and questions referring to techs when appropriate

5. Complete necessary paperwork (log sheets, QA documents etc.)

6. Prepare send outs for pickup

7. Perform waived testing after training and review by lab manager or designee

8. Perform manual differentials and Urinalysis review after training and review by lab manager or designee (This only applies to current MLT students)

9. Assist with Quality control on waived testing

10. Effective clear communication with techs and phlebotomy staff


Education/Licensure/Certifications:

  • High school diploma

Experience:

  • Phlebotomy experience preferred but not required
  • Current MLT or MLS student preferred but not required
