Job description
Under indirect supervision provides educational/didactic instruction and mentorship to physical therapy residents and fellows, assist with physical therapy residency and fellowship planning/management, consultative and strategic planning services to physical therapy residency and fellowship coordinator and director in the areas of physical therapy professional education, development, competencies and continuous learning in order to assess/evaluate, maintain, improve and develop professional physical therapy practices and align physical therapy education, professional development and professional practice with strategic organizational/program goals/objectives; assist with implementation and evaluation/improvement of physical therapy residency and fellowship programs in the Southern California Region; dissemination of evidence based practice and manages best practice models that improve physical therapy and organizational performance.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
  • Effectively provide group didactic and/or psychomotor education to physical therapy Residents and/or Fellows.
  • Provide on-site education and mentorship of the physical therapy Resident and/or Fellow.
  • Provide on-site education/didactic/psychomotor training for the physical therapy Residents and/or Fellows locally or within the region.
  • Performs and document scheduled evaluations of didactic and psychomotor knowledge of the physical therapy Resident and/or Fellow.
  • Serve as ongoing educator, mentor and resource to the physical therapy Resident and/or Fellow.
  • Provides consultative services and may act as an expert resource to internal professional partner/stakeholders in the areas of professional physical therapy education/program design, development, improvement, and evaluation.
  • Develops short, intermediate, and long-range education/development plans to support identified current and future needs for physical therapy residency and fellowship resources and professional practice, as well as program/strategic goals and objectives.
  • Assist in development and implementation of the strategic plan of the physical therapy residency and/or fellowship program(s), standards, goal/objectives related to enhancing professional practice and meeting program needs.
  • Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations with the public, patients, families, staff, physicians, and other personnel.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and trainings.
  • Reporting Structure:
  • Reports directly to the Director of the Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship programs, and Coordinator of Clinical Education (Residency and Fellowship Coordinator).
  • Reports indirectly to the local Department Administrator of PM&R.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of full time practice as a licensed Physical Therapist in a clinical setting in the area of clinical specialty.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience providing clinical mentoring in a Physical Therapy Residency or Fellowship program.(for fellowship instructions)


Education
  • Completion of an accredited PT training program with a Bachelors, Masters or doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Completion and certification from a Physical Therapy Fellowship Program or equivalent education.


License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association
  • Physical Therapist License (California)


Additional Requirements:
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills.
  • Current knowledge in area of clinical specialty.
  • Ability to work as a team leader.
  • Demonstrates professional competence in assessing patients condition at the onset and through all phases of the physical therapy care.
  • Demonstrate skill in the performance of psychomotor skills relative to musculoskeletal and neurological assessment and treatment procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in the delivery of services to patients of the age group served. Is able to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age specific needs in accordance with departmental policy.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching experience in physical therapy (i.e. academia, professional conference, continuing education course).
  • APTA approved Clinical Specialist Certification
