Overview:
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI. Qualifications:
Pipe Welders perform welding functions on all submarine piping systems materials, including bi-metallic welds in all positions according to weld procedures using GTAW.
- Welds include butts, sockets, boss roots, weldolets and fillets
- Consumes an E.B. insert to form the root pass of a butt weld, performs 5X magnification visual inspection of pipe welds, and weld repair of excavated areas of pipe welds
- May operate automatic TIG fixed head and orbital automatic welding equipment
- Performs a visual inspection of finished welds.
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Required:
- Previous welding training and/or experience
- Must be available to work all shifts
- Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces (in-tank welding) and extreme temperature conditions (cold, heat) as required
- Some lifting will be required
- Candidates must be able to work in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions
- Must pass an Electric Boat socket and X-Ray butt test and SSP 3.11 test per training requirements
- Must be able to read and interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams
- Must possess basic mathematical skills
- Must possess their own basic hand tools
Preferred:
- High School Diploma/GED; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
- Previous Pipe welding training and/or experience
- TIG (GTAW, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) welding process training and/or experience
- X-Ray pipe welding experience
- Orbital welding
- Previous Electric Boat pipe welding experience
- Nuclear welding experience
- Military/Navy related experience
- Previous EB experience
- Must possess communication and interpersonal skills
