Job Description Summary
The Police Officer II prevents and investigates violations of the law, University rules and regulations under the direction of a Sergeant and/or Lieutenant.
Qualifications
Required Education:
High School diploma or GED.
Required Experience:
One year as a licensed Police Officer.
Preferred Education:
None
Preferred Experience:
Two or more years as a license police officer
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification. Must have a State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Intermediate certification.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population. Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and ability to effectively operate computers and advanced computer software.
Job Responsibilities
50% - POLICE:
Patrols property under the jurisdiction of Texas A&M University in Galveston County by motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot. Enforces all criminal laws of the state of Texas and violations of Texas A&M at Galveston rules and regulations.
35% - POLICE:
Takes reports and performs preliminary police investigations. Reports all violations of the rules and regulations of Texas A&M University at Galveston.
5% - POLICE:
Provides assistance to the public whenever possible. Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances. Issue citations and testifies in justice of the peace courts, as well as county and district courts and at a student judicial hearings. Guards and transports prisoners.
5% - POLICE:
Interacts with the public on a day-to-day contact. Responds to emergency calls and takes appropriate action.
5% - OTHER:
Performs other duties as assigned.

Must successfully pass background investigation contingent upon hire. Must successfully complete Field Training program.
