Under supervision of the Pretreatment Supervisor and/or Pretreatment Inspector, performs duties related to the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program, including the FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) program, for the purpose of protecting the City's sanitary sewer system with regard to discharges of industrial waste, as defined in Section 94-114 of the City's Code of Ordinances. Duties include assisting in the sampling of facility wastewater discharges and inspection of facility processes and pretreatment systems, and assisting in the maintenance of records in files and databases. Duties also include tasks related to the FOG program, including routine inspections of FSEs (Food Services Establishments) to determine compliance with permit terms, including evaluation of grease trap condition; issuance of notices of violation to FSEs in non-compliance; recording information from grease trap servicing manifests into database; assisting in the investigation of sources of grease-related sanitary sewer overflows; providing compliance assistance to FSE management; and participating in public outreach and awareness programs. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
1. Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or other appropriate field
2. Preferred to hold or be able to obtain Class II certifications in both Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals within 3 years of employment
3. Physically capable of performing essential duties as described
4. Must have communication skills necessary for contact with industrial/commercial facilities and the general public.
5. Must possess valid Louisiana driver's license
Normal Promotion Path From This Class
Pretreatment Inspector, or any higher class or level for which eligible and qualified.
(11) Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy to moderately heavy objects and materials (removal of manhole covers, lifting/carrying composite wastewater samplers, etc.). Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Tasks are performed with risk of exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as temperature and noise extremes, wetness, humidity, animals, insects, toxic/poisonous agents, strong odors and various industrial activities.
